Gabriel Paulista spoke to VCF MEDIA after a goalless draw with SD Huesca on Matchday 38, analysing the game and giving his final verdict on the season.
"We were looking to change this bad run away from home, and we wanted to go for the three points. Huesca needed a positive result and they have pressed from the beginning," he said after the final whistle.
"We were good defensively. We tried to bring the ball out on some moves, and in the second half we had two clear chances that we shouldn't have missed. It was a good game. The important thing is that we didn't lose. Now we will rest and come back next season as strong as possible."
Paulista continued with an honest verdict on 2020/21, and promised a renewed effort to enjoy a good 2021/22 campaign.
"It obviously wasn't the season that all of us at Valencia CF wanted. It was a very difficult season for us. There were moments in which there was a lot of pressure on us, with many people outside the club saying that we were going to be fighting to stay up.It's difficult to hear things like that about this club. This is a club with a lot of history, so these things can't happen. We shall see if next season we can change everything -be it attitude or whatever."
"Every player has to stand up and be counted. I'm the first to acknowledge this and accept my mistakes. There are things that I need to improve, and I'm going to come back much stronger next season to try to help the club. I'm going to help my teammates as well, aiding the younger members of the squad with continuing to grow. I'm sure that we are going to have a good season."
